Diabetes Coalition of Palm Beach County 2016 Inaugural Educational Symposium
The Diabetes Coalition is a voluntary healthcare alliance comprised of over 50 member organizations and community partners. We are all working together to “prevent diabetes and improve the lives of individuals having the disease and those touched by it” through: education, awareness, quality services, management and advocacy.
This year in collaboration with the Palm Healthcare Foundation and Jupiter Medical Center, the Coalition held its inaugural symposium on Friday, April 22nd entitled:
“PREVENTING, CONTROLLING AND MANAGING DIABETES”
Channeling Research and Knowledge into Action – Changing and Improving the Health and Well-being of Individuals who are “at Risk”, or Affected by Diabetes
The Scripps Research Institute, Scripps Florida, hosted the symposium. The Coalition was very honored to be able to partner with Scripps Research Institute, which brings to Palm Beach County a state of the art biomedical research facility, cutting edge technologies, and researchers.

The audience for this event was healthcare providers (physicians and nurses) and other healthcare professionals. The symposium had over 110 attendees. The goal of the symposium was to provide a venue for the dissemination of research, knowledge, and evidenced–based “best practices”, translating these findings and “lessons learned” into clinical practice and improved patient outcomes.
In addition to introducing the audience to the Diabetes Coalition of Palm Beach County, the symposium offered a very exciting and robust program with presentations from an interdisciplinary team of experts in the field of diabetes representing the full spectrum of this disease. The educational sessions for the symposium were designed based on the responses and recommendations received from a questionnaire that was sent out to the Coalition’s member organizations.

To complement the educational sessions and to continue the important dialogue, attendees were encouraged to visit the Symposium Resource Room for additional information about the cutting-edge research being done and learn more about the evidence-based best practices in diabetes. This event also provided an excellent opportunity for networking with other healthcare professionals attending the symposium.
In addition to Scripps Research Institute, Scripps Florida the Diabetes Coalition would like to thank our sponsoring partners: Palm Health Care Foundation, Jupiter Medical Center, the YMCA of South Palm Beach County, Bolay Restaurant, United HealthCare, Coalition members, community partners, and the volunteers from Florida Atlantic University, AmeriCorps Vista, and Rising Leaders. Through our collaborative hard work and effort, the Diabetes Coalition’s inaugural educational symposium was a resounding success!!!
